Remember how OLD 60 sounded when you were 30? Today’s 60 is nothing like that 60. Indeed, many are psyched about turning 60. The angst of turning 50 is replaced with calmness, confidence, and clarity.
Perhaps that’s you? Perhaps it’s not. In either case, tell stories about being in your 60s:
Tell the story about your sixtieth birthday.
Tell the story about becoming eligible for Medicare.
Tell the story about the first time you realized the AARP promotion was directed at YOU.
Tell the story about the first time “some young thing” asked you if you wanted the senior discount—maybe it was at a movie theatre or a restaurant?
Did you retire at 65 or at least when you were in your 60s? If yes, how was your life different—either better or worse? If no, why did you continue working? Tell the story.
Do you travel more? Tell the story.
Tell the story about checking “must dos” off your bucket list and adding new ones.
Did you become single again—either through spouse’s death or a divorce—when you were in your sixties? What happened? Tell the story.
It’s been said that good health trumps everything else. Do you agree? Did your health change when you were in your sixties? Tell the story.
What have you done to prepare for a time when you might not be physically able to take care of yourself? What do you want to happen to you then?
Do you have a living will? Share it here.
Tell the story about looking in the mirror and seeing an “old person” that just COULD. NOT. BE. ME.
Did you do something to “reinvent” yourself—do something “crazy”? Tell the story.
Tell a story about your grandchildren helping you master technology.
Do your grandchildren think you are cool? Tell the story.
Some sixty-year-olds sit in front of the TV all day. Some go out and experience the world. Are you a “sitter” or an “experiencer”? Tell the story.
What is the worst thing about being in your sixties?
